Il 60% di questo viene utilizzato per la  zincatura per proteggere l&#8217;acciaio dalla corrosione prolungando in tal modo significativamente la durata dei prodotti in acciaio. Circa il 15% \u00e8 impiegato nella produzione di leghe di zinco, principalmente per approvvigionare l&#8217;industria della pressofusione, il 14% viene utilizzato nella produzione di ottone e bronzo e l&#8217;8% nella produzione di composti tra i quali ossido di zinco e solfato di zinco. Il resto \u00e8 costituito da leghe di zinco, principalmente laminate, utilizzate in applicazioni semilavorate, incluse le monete e applicazioni architettoniche.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Dopo di che lo zinco viene convertito in una vasta gamma di prodotti. La pi\u00f9 ampia area di applicazione \u00e8 l&#8217;edilizia dove trova impiego il 45% di tutti i prodotti in zinco di primo utilizzo. Nel settore dei trasporti si consuma il 25% dello zinco globale, mentre i beni di consumo, inclusi elettrodomestici e apparecchi elettronici, rappresentano il 23%. Queste caratteristiche non solo influenzano l&#8217;applicabilit\u00e0, ma anche l&#8217;economia e le prestazioni nell&#8217;ambiente. Il metodo di applicazione, l&#8217;adesione al metallo di base, la durezza, la resistenza alla corrosione e lo spessore di ogni rivestimento di zinco variano. La natura del processo di zincatura garantisce che il rivestimento del metallo con lo zinco presenti caratteristiche ottime di adesione, abrasione e resistenza alla corrosione. I rivestimenti zincati non si deteriorano (lesioni, bolle e scrostamenti) come con altri rivestimenti di barriera come la verniciatura. Tuttavia, lo zinco \u00e8 un materiale reattivo e si corrode e si erode lentamente.
