Historical Overview

UNICOIL (Universal Metal Coating Company) was established in 1997 as the first company in the Middle East to manufacture pre-painted steel and aluminum coils, and since then it has emerged as a leader in the steel coil coating and pre-painting industry in regional markets. UNICOIL was established by two industrial pioneers (namely Zamil Group Holding Company and Rashed Abdul Rahman AlRashed & Sons Group) as a joint venture trading in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with a world leader in the pre-painted steel industry (BHP of Australia). UNICOIL then became a 100% Saudi-owned company in 2004. With manufacturing facilities located in the industrial cities of Al-Jubail and Jeddah, its five production lines now have installed annual production capacities of 400,000 metric tons for HRC pickling, 340,000 metric tons for CRC, 250,000 metric tons for Galvanized Steel Coils, 210,000 metric tons of Pre-Painted Steel Coils, plus 18 million linear meters of Roll Formed Steel Sheets. UNICOIL now occupies a dominant position in the Middle East and North Africa regions.

1995
• UNICOIL was established in Al-Jubail Industrial City.
• UNICOIL decided to set up a color coating line for galvanized steel with a capacity of 120,000 metric tons per year.
1996
UNICOIL enters a joint venture cooperation with BHP in Australia (now BlueScope Australia).
1997
UNICOIL commissions its first production line supplied by FATA HUNTER with a capacity of 120,000 metric tons per year for pre-painted galvanized steel coils.
2003
• UNICOIL becomes a 100% Saudi-owned company.
• UNICOIL receives ISO 9001:2000 certification for the production of pre-painted galvanized steel coils.
2004
UNICOIL starts expanding the following production lines:

• Push-Pull Pickling Line: Production capacity of 400,000 metric tons per year.
• Cold-Rolling Mill Line: Production capacity of 340,000 metric tons per year.
• Continuous Galvanizing Line: Production capacity of 250,000 metric tons per year.
2006
UNICOIL commissions its production lines for cold-rolled steel coils and galvanized steel coils.
2007
UNICOIL increases its annual production capacity of prepainted galvanized steel coils by 90,000 metric tons per year at its new plant in Jeddah (western region of Saudi Arabia).
2009
UNICOIL receives ISO 9001:2008 certification for its metallic coated and organic coated products.
2010
UNICOIL achieves the cumulative production of one million metric tons of pre-painted galvanized steel coils since its inception.
2011
UNICOIL commissions two production lines of roll formed steel sheets with a total production capacity of 18 million linear meters annually.
2012
UNICOIL achieved the cumulative production of one million metric tons of galvanized steel coils.
2013
• UNICOIL launched its "Know Your Pre-painted Galvanized Sheets" social responsibility campaign for pre-painted galvanized steel products.
2014
UNICOIL is accredited with quality marks from SASO and ESMA.
2015
• UNICOIL received the "Best Environmental Performance Award" from Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu for its efforts during 2014.
• UNICOIL receives certification for Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2004) and Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSAS 18001:2007).
• UNICOIL is accredited with the Jordanian (JQM) Quality Marks.
2016
• UNICOIL is accredited with Kuwait Quality Mark (KQM).
• UNICOIL received the Laboratory accreditation, by Emirates International Accreditation Center a signatory of ILAC - MRA (International Laboratories Accreditation Cooperation- Mutual Recognition Agreement).
• UNICOIL Started Producing an Eco-Friendly Trichrome Galvanized Steel Coils & Sheets.
• UNICOIL Started Producing an Eco-Friendly Chromium-Free Pre-painted Steel Coils & Sheets.
2017

• UNICOIL is certified for Information Security Management Standards ISO/IEC 27001:2013
2021

• Since it was established, UNICOIL achieved 1M SAFE MAN-HOURS without LTI during the period from January 5, 202 to January 4, 2021.
